I'm a C#/Java developer looking to get into game 3d/directx programming. Can
anyone recommend a good place to start? Book, sites, mags, etc....

Also question...
Is C++ still the most used language for game development?

Download the DirectX SDK and look at the examples/tutorials. That is how I
learned C++.

Yes, I believe so...

As Lasse suggested, download the DirectX SDK from Microsoft (free).
They have several tutorials and samples. With DirectX 9, the managed
languages (C#, VB.NET and Managed C++) are now supported. The
tutorials won't really teach you 3D programming, but they will get you
familiar with the API.

Yes, and it probably will be for some time. The reasons are many, but
this has come up before on this newsgroup. Look in the archives.

Good luck! :^)

msdn.microsoft.com has a wealth of free resources for developers
including msdn tv which had an episode on using C# with DirectX.

Regarding C++ (my choice), pick an open language with a future, then
concentrate on finishing your projects and not getting distracted with
language debates. Ideally, strive to make your games so compelling that
people would purchase a new console to run them. Have you ever heard a
game player say, hey that game must be awesome it was written using
DirectX 9 and C++? not ...
