| Lots of languages can create exe files. C, C++, Visual C++,visual basic, liberty basic, etc. Liberty basic can be downloaded for free at www.libertybasic.com You may use it as long as you need to evaluate it. Then a run time package costs about $50 for top version. You can not make exe files until you get a runtime package. There is a free game tutorial at the newsletter page. go to www.libertybasic.com and then check links for newsletter. | |||

How does your plug for libertybasic answer his question? Andy

Almost any programming language can be used to make an .exe file: Java, C, C++ VisualBasic, etc. What you need to make the .exe, though, is a compiler. Some are free (e.g. Java, gcc). Some you have to buy (e.g. Visual C++), but these are usually full IDE's and have a ton of other stuff that help in programming. Why do you ask? What are you trying to find out? Your ultimate goal will effect the language you choose.

Not always possible, but what I do is I use a binary editor to scroll through the .EXE file and most times you'll find some string which gives it away such as 'Microsoft C Runtime' (Visual C++) or 'Visual Component Library' (Delphi).

Doe! I read the question wrong. I read the "was" as "is." So Dr. O here is right--you can't always tell. I think MS's latest compilers always slap in a message like the one he indicates. Other than that, though, you can't always tell. I don't know how it'd help you anyway. I don't know what you're trying to do, but knowing what a language was written in initially won't really help you crack or hack it AFAIK.
