Hi,
Just a quick note, if you into game development, you wouldnt go far wrong
with BlitzBasic3d,
www.blitzbasic.com

Ive been using this for some time and Its very quick, easy to use, powerful
3d engine. This is NOT a simplistic tool, its very powerful. Based around a
Basic language, it makes directX game development easy.

Thanks.

I don't think many of us are gonna learn Blitz now. Most of us already know
C++ so aren't going to learn a new language (especially when it's like going
from c++ to Visual Basic).

Ok I know it's more like c++ than visual basic (I used to use it in the
amiga days, I even bought it) - but It's still a downgrade from C.

So in summary, If you find C a bit dauting go for blitz, if you want to go
straight for the gold learn C.

Most people will learn Blitz on the way to C I suspect.

Just tried the demos.

There seems to be a serious optimisation problem.. (probably as expected).

On the multiplayer one with the houses I get 9fps at 1600x1200 with my
radeon 9800.. I get 40 fps in the doom alpha at 1600x1200.

Although the graphics are pretty good.

Hmm... Well, I consider myself a C++ expert (even started writing a book
about it), and I think these high level basic languages are great... You
should use whatever language can most elegantly express the solution to
you're problem.

I myself have not used Blitz, but I have used DarkBasic.

Look, I am not trying to make Doom 3. I do not need to push the envelope, my
game designs are more about content than technology. These languages are
quite capable of implementing a huge RANGE of games (and doing so in a lot
less code than you could in C++).

I understand that displaying 3D graphics can be as fast (well almost) as in
optimized C/C++ because there could simply be a highlevel API for it. But
what about the rest of the code - is that also compiled and optimized or is
it some form of scripting?
