| Hi, I am a game programmer. I would love to port all those old & beloved abandonware games to the new OSes around (linux, and windows (98/ 2K)). Can any of you let me know who do I get in touch with to get the source code of the abandoware games. It will be far easier to port it than to start from scratch. Perhaps they will be willing to release the source under the GPL like Quake 2. Regards, Mridul. | |||

I'd love to do the same! :^) I'd also like to port some old abondoned board games (e.g. Talisman, Up Front) to the PC. The problem is finding the time. :^( I wonder if there is a _commercial_ market for such games? Seeing how many piles of money PopCap makes on their games (Bejeweled, BookWorm), makes me think there is...?

Um, I don't quite understand that sentence. They made it 3D because they made it 3D instead of having it 3D?

That is like, totally a bummer... Actually, kidding aside... I totally agree... It's like when FMV first came out, every game had to have HOURS of craptacular video... It's like the programmers of these games are so proud of their new 3D skills that they just have to show em off with way too much camera work... You know what game is good because it "just haves it 3D" is Warcraft 3. The 3D here is not an issue. In fact, you could implement nearly the exact same gameplay in 2D... Damn, Blizzard makes some fine games... I have a friend who is a serious SUPER hardcore gamer, and he complains about blizzards games... He always complains that X game already has that feature, or Y game has 10 times the complexity... But I think he's missing what Blizzard is really good at... Taking a simple gameplay idea and refining it sharper than anyone has ever done... Thus, their games are accessable to newbies, and still intruiging for the veterans.... Tony

Obviously some games are better suited to full 3d, such as driving games - but then again when it was all 2D the car games were either from above (like gta3) or the same 'behind' angle (you know, those ones where the road used to bend and sprites came at you)..

| No, I think some games really do need to take advantage of 3D. I'm just complaining about the ones that don't, but DO!
