Are sprites anywhere to be found on the net?

Does anyone know where to find free images off the internet that could be
used as sprites and tiles (preferably multiple sprites or tiles per image).
I have searched quite a bit and am having trouble finding anything of decent
quality or quantity. Any help in this area is greatly appreciated.

I think this is bad advice. You can get away with a wireframe inverse
kinematics man if you just want to show off your modelling skills. However
recruiters are human and might subconsiously give you a better rating if the
model also looks visually appealing. It also helps if a games programmer has
some artistic skill and an eye for design - you won't be doing serious
artwork but you might be asked to produce a user interface, for example.

Hmm... You might want to refine your search from say, "Sprite" to "Stock
Images" or even "Free Clipart"? These probably won't be as exact, but will
probably give you more results. I'm not quite sure what you want to use
these for and it would be helpful if you told us, that way we could help you
more with your problem. If you are using these for a game, you will probably
have to make your own. But, for physics modeling, wireframes are fine.
(I don't know how the whole "Physics Modeling" subject came about, but I
thought I might as well jump on the bandwagon )
