Assuming no Floppy, which does make formatting easy, I'd create a bootable CD with DOS on it and any of the FDISK clones available on the internet.

However, things do work nicely (though sometimes like trying to walk on a treacle-covered path), once I found how to get Vista to keep itself to itself, but I had to turn that big nuisance User Account Control off, both to prevent it's window popping up so much, and also so that my U3 flash drive programs would work. Also, I didn't want to lose the various Toshiba documentation etc facilities that are installed. But every now and then I start looking for my WinXP disc... -- Maurice Batey (Retired in Surrey, UK) (Remove 'removethis.' to reply by email)

I just needed to use the new Snipper accessory to capture some slides that I have in PDF and wanted to put into Powerpoint. I could have sued SnagIt or one of the other 3rd party screen capture utils, but Vista had one built in. It worked very well. That UAC is a pain though. Still, Ubuntu does the same thing when you try to do something that should require admin privs.

Get in contact with the store you bought it from and tell them you want to buy a recovery disc with XP as the OS.
