Ubuntu has how many discs? I heard that it is multi disc. It will be tough do download all.

I think it is one cd. I have an Ubuntu cd. It was shipped directly to my home freely ubuntu. It has some software which also works on windows. It has some softwares. I think new ubuntu has many softwares in it, so it might be more than a single cd. I have not used Ubuntu, but I have seen it. It looks good and great thing is it is free and open source. It is becoming popular now a days.

Good thats information. 1 Disc is the best because I can just boot into Ubuntu and solve all my Windows problems. Anyhow with linux I don't have to defragment the drive. It is a really good thing. Anyway it's more responsive than Windows. The only downside on linux is that almost all games are not supported. No Warcraft or C&C in Linux.

ubuntu will send you a free cd, like they said.

Internet Installation for other software you want with the basic distro though, can be a pain at first with a slow connection. If that is the case, it would then be best to get a DVD to install a more robust system locally before you go out in search of additional needed software. If you don't want to buy a dvd, and have a burner, then torrent it (even on a slow connection, with lots of seeds). Just download and come back when its done, burn and install.

WINE is a start, but there are still tons of games and other programs that I have never been able to get running using it. The problem is not WINE, or even Linux for that matter though. Game and other manufacturers need to get a clue as to how many people out there would be willing to play their games (and/or application) on other platforms. Then maybe they would quit incorporating "Microsoft Only' solutions to their initial build production tools, allowing it to port to other platforms easily. Any game written in C runs much faster as a Linux port than the retail MS package.
