Default Firefox/Java on openSuse

I have upgraded to Firefox 2.0.0.14 on openSuse 10.3 and then installed Java 1.5.0_12-b04, created a symbolic link to java plugin for firefox (libjavaplugin_oji.so) but whenever I try to load a Java applet it will not show anything just a blank space where the applet should be, not even the jigsaw piece saying Java is not installed or a blank applet container. Tried running through Opera, and Konqurer with the same Java version and they crash (Firefox also did this before installing v. 1.5.1_12).

Looking at aboutlugins it shows java as installed and active.

I tried going back to the previous version of Firefox (2.0.0.6) and the previous version of Java and firefox just crashes again.

Any ideas?
