| I recently got an external drive on a USB 2.0 connection, and on Friday it just disappeared from the computer. I have tried turning it on, off, removing the cables, putting them back, Device Manager, Computer Management, etc. and nothing works. sometimes I get Error Code 10 on the USB connection which says "Mass Storage Device" and other times the tools say that it is working properly, but it will not show up as a Drive anywhere on the Windows Explorer, etc. I cannot use it, and I cannot even get any of the Repair programs to find it. The Drive is on, and it sounds like the plates are spinning. Please HELP! | |||

| I have tried turning it on, off, removing the cables, putting them back, Just a thought. Can you get your hands on new cables or plug it in to another computer? Can you read it w/ manufacters dos installation disk? You did not state which OS and have you tried removing the usb from dev. man. and let it redetect it? (all?) Try posting on your operating systems group site (alt.(?) I know I was not much help, but, maybe it'll get the ball rolling! Goodluck, C. | Frank, Please repost on alt.windows-xp . You will find people with much more knowledge with your problem than I have. Is this an add-on usb card? Or onboard? Also windows will not support drives greater than 137 GB without a registry change. This you do with the manus. install. disk. What brand drive? Repost and I'll see if i can find E.C. 10. | I just found this in a news group. Maybe? C. I had a similar problem with an external USB drive. My problem was tracked down to one computer's USB port did provide the power needed to run the drive and the other computer's USB port did not. I hooked up my optional external power supply and disabled the hard drive USB port power option and it worked on either computer. Another possibly is that the drive you are using needs a proprietary driver that you have to load from a supplied disk and not a "standard" Microsoft driver? I recently bought an 80 gig Western Digital hard drive which I put in an external enclosure. The disk worked fine throughtout this past week. I took it home, plugged it into my dad's computer, and it worked fine. I brought it back home, plugged it in, and now it shows up in Device Manager, but not in windows explorer. I'm hoping my hard drive isn't damaged and in need or reformatting. Have you had any success yet? If possible, could you please respond to my personal email account? Shootfirst6501@yahoo.com Thanks, Brian | |||
