| I am trying desperatley to reinstall drivers for my CDROM. It s a Dell Dimension 4300 and the drivers for the LG8482b were installed at the factory. Right now there is no driver ...no record of the thing ever being installed on the machine....Device manager ...only shows the burner and not the cd rom. I ran some Flash thing that totally erased the drivers for it. I found a driver on and installed it...it installed it to a folder it made call C:/CDROM which shows up in explorer (windows) but when I hit an executable within that folder called EJECT it opens the burner....so does that mean it applied it to the existing one?meaning the burner? What folder do I need to extract those files to? is it C:/windows/system32/cdrom? I see that one there?where do the drivers for the cdrom reside? Thanks in advance Dad | |||

Your CDROM drive is dead. There is no special driver that must be loaded for your CDROM drive, what you have downloaded is probably a DOS driver (generic) for CDROM drives. -- AIM: FrznFoodClerk email: de_on-lag@co_cast.net (_ = m) website: under construction Need a technician in the south Jersey area? email/IM for rates/services | |||

| Indeed. Besides, if you have a burner, why do you need another CD-Rom? If you really need it, buy a new one. Theyre dirt cheap now. -- ________________________________ Tom Dyer tom@mt-pc.co.uk Cheap, high performance, custom built computers, software, upgrades and informative articles. www.mt-pc.co.uk "Night_Seer" <ecamacho4 at hotmail dot com> wrote in message news:HMadnVOcY5vYhbzdRVn-hg@speakeasy.net... > DeMoN LaG wrote: > > "Daddio" <quakemaster2@hotmail.com> wrote in > > news:1L_Tb.1595$SY3.277996@read2.cgocable.net: > > > >> C:/windows/system32/cdrom? | Ooops! forgot to mention... do this from DOS.. Start up with a windows 98 boot disk (Floppy..) and insert the floppy run setupd... Etc. BTW these guys are mistaken i believe..... CD drives DO need drivers... atapi drivers... Windows installs CD generic CD-rom drivers in the form of registry keys during setup so you dont see them ... (Just like yr disk controllers and cpu clock etc etc..) I find that some of that have been manufactured in the past 2-3 years will not read. I borrowed some Cd's from our public library and one is only a year old. It refuses to work in one drive and is stubborn and cranky in the other. The disc is in very good condition. This has happened on several occasions but not with older CD's. <snip> | |||
