| I have not used the CD-ROM much, so I doubt is bad. (My OS is WIN98) It could be the software drivers are corrupt, but I deleted the Samsung SC-140 drivers which comes with the HP Pavilion PC, and let Windows recoup those drivers, and re-write them back. And still does not work! Most likely there is some corruption in the configuration files, but I do not know how to go about that. I suspect that is the case, because a ZIP driver that I have -which I rarely used- does not work either. Windows recognizes that they exist, and they show up as D: and E: when I check "My Computer", but do not boot up when the systems starts. And if I click on the drive icon corresponding to their letters, a pop window will indicate that "drive is not accessible" or not ready. The CD light not even comes on while I am doing this clicking. Is there anybody out there who could help? My exposure is significant, because I have not been able to backup my files in a long time. THANKS. Juan Xuna J@Xuna.com | |||

| You're probably missing drivers for your motherboard -- try updating drivers in device manager (right-click my computer -> go to device manager tab). You might be better off getting rid of 98 -- I upgraded to 2000 -- more crashproof and secure. "xuna" <xuna@cfl.rr.com> wrote in message news:RWBQa.97172$ic1.2073528@twister.tampabay.rr.c om...
