| MK PitStop Member | I've been seeing OpenOffice.org as a replacement for Windows Office in several internet cafes around my school. They appear to have similar features and I gather OpenOffice.org is free. If you already have MS Word, would you still shift to using OpenOffice.org? | ||

| MK PitStop Member | OpenOffice sure is free, but it also sure is SLOOOOOOOW. Compared to MS Office, it loads like 5x slower. Maybe more. Not too reliable, especially if you just want to type and print something quick. Kudos to the programmers though, for offering us freedom from Microsoft. ![]() | ||

| MK PitStop Member | Isn't that dependent on the computer you use? I haven't tried it before but I've seen it being used and it seems to load fine. I am an MS Word user myself and I probably won't be changing a writer software just yet. | ||

| MK PitStop Member | I don't know. I'm pretty sure I'm using a high-end PC here It's for graphics.I even tried loading up an older version (1.1.5) but the crawl problem still exists. Moreover I can't rely on it to restore my old documents perfectly, as my word documents usually consist of images and stuff that almost need to be precisely in a certain location. | ||

| MK PitStop Member | If I'm not mistaken, one drawback of the OpenOffice.org Writer is the inefficient reciprocity or compatibility. | ||

Not really - it's the other way around. My Word documents usually consist of a bunch of images. When I try opening them on OpenOffice, they're all over the place! Openoffice doesn't lay the images precisely as I put them on Word. | |||
