| MK PitStop Member | I've got an HP pavilion that's about a year old and the battery only lasts about 20 minutes. It used to last 2 hours. Is there anything I can do about it? or do I need to get a new battery. Also, if I get a new battery, what can i do to make it last longer?

| Member Level 2 | Hi Exam. Being on my third HP laptop I can tell you that they don't have the best battery life anyway. As it's got a Lithium battery the best way to treat it is to only ever keep it charged between 60-80%. Li batteries like to be charged but not fully. If using from a power point take the battery out. Also, set the power theme to max battery. Only run in 16-bit colour. Turn your brightness down. (this is also promote backlife longevity as they fade over time). 20 Minutes is ridiculous though, contacted HP regarding this? | ||

| Member Level 2 | Man there is solution to your problem !!! First fill your battery to %100 and let some resource intensive program do the job and empty the battery. What is important is that you disable all timers and let the computer die itself ! When it dies the first time hit power button again and let it die again. Repeat this until your laptop doesn't even react anymore to power button ! When you do this just plug it into electricity and don't power it up ! Just leave it there to fill itself up. Repeat these thing couple of times (2-3) and remember !! Don't use it while it is filling itself !!! Btw this works for me and it is even in the IBM Thinkpad manual. Probably it is not in HP manual since we all know how much HP sucks right. Well Lenovo sucks now to ... so I don't know what I will buy next .... Apple maybe...batter sure lasts longer hehe ( ignore this last paragraph | ||
