Default Primax Scanner

I have had a scanner sitting in a closet for a while, after I had no use for it, now I want to bring it back out. A Primax Colorado 600P operating on Windows 200 pro.
Worked before, does not work now (before it was on win 98 SE).

It scans for 2 inches and then stops. Since in storage for a long time, I checked internal electrical and mechanical connections. All check out fine. Voltage to motor okay, adaptor okay, nothing mechanically locked up. The motor is being told to stop, but by what?

Reinstalled drivers, which may not be good for windows 2000. Nothing. Went to DriverGuide.com downloaded windows 2000 drivers, still no good.

Lights up, warms up, TWAIN works through Photoshop no problem, no hardware conflicts on LP1, new drivers did nothing. Reinstalled software, still nothing.

I was told by a friend's friend that there maybe something scanning the driver, which shuts it off after scanning a couple inches? Couldn't give me any more help than that. I am not running a printer through it, I am printing through a shared networked printer, peer to peer network with a windows XP computer (which you also helped me on).

Hate to buy a new scanner if I can get this to work, any suggestions? Espescially if it has nothing to do with the scanner...
