Default Injured laptop

I have a laptop computer that accidentally fell from a counter (approximately 3.5 ft tall) to the concrete/vinyl tile floor, upside down. The only damage that I have been able to determine is with the floppy drive and with the screen. The floppy will not accept disks. It's as if it is permanently in a closed position. The screen is not cracked, but I cannot get a viewable image on it. There appears to be a faint, ghost-like image, but it is not clear enough to use. I have tried to adjust the contrast and brightness without success.
I have attached a regular monitor to the laptop and can use it as a desktop. The modem works, the DVD-rom works, the keyboard works but has a few sticky keys.

I want to know what I should do about the floppy and the screen. Should I try to take it apart and replace the floppy myself?? I have looked on the net about the screen issue and think it may just need bulbs or something replaced. Should I try to work on this myself?? I have had college courses in PC repair, but we didn't learn about or touch laptops. I don't want to totally disable it. The accident is not covered by the warranty, and I am pretty sure that taking it to a repair shop would be costly.

Any advice?!?
