| Member Level 3 | I have seen many new desk top and laptop replacing drive A with CD/DVD writer/reader. Is floppy disk no longer in use already? What if we need to take the information out, what can we do? | ||

| MK PitStop Member | I'm sorry khunvi, I'm confused. What do you mean by when you need to take the information out? With the availability of CD/DVD writers and the portable flash drives, floppies are just becoming a little of less use. More data can be transferred from one computer to another using discs and flash drives. This doesn't mean, however, that floppy drives are no longer in use. Some people still use them. We can say, though, that soon enough it will become obsolete. | ||

| MK PitStop Member | Floppies didn't change in last 20 years. Disketess are 1.44Mb for the same period. !20Mb floppies didn't make break-through. This is probably because writing on diskettes is slow and storing data on magnetic carriers is unreliable. You put scisors by mistake on a diskette and all data gone. But diskettes (and hence floppies) can still be important since there are many old computers around even in institutions... And another but...I always send data by mail, so...haven't used floppy for years. | ||

| Member Level 2 | my computer currently doesn't have an floppy right now. I think, since the inception of CD burners/rewriters, the use of a floppy seems obsolete. Why use something that can only save 1.44mb of memory to something that can save 700mb of memory? | ||
