| MK PitStop Member | I know, you guys probably still have it on your desktops. But do you still actually use it? With all the USB disks in stores, and the more practical CD-Rs, floppy disks are beginning to dive into the obsolescence bin. It could still be of some use to accounting staff who don't really rely on networking and still save on floppies to print on another computer... I, for one, don't recall taking one in my palm for the last few months. | ||

| MK PitStop Member | Oh, you mean the big floppy? I have never used it! We still use diskettes (the 3.5 floppy) to exchange files, specially on reports. It is actually easy to save a file to, no need for Nero and stuff like that. Flash drives are expensive and I wouldn't have lent them mine anyway. I use instead a CD to burn/save files to, it has got more capacity. I rarely use a diskette because my diskette drive at home isn't working properly, even after attempts at cleaning it. But most often we just email each other. | ||

I think there old and not really needed anymore I know that lots of schools still use them and I can understand why they do as there cheap and a bit less as easy to brake than a CD | ||

| MK PitStop Member | Macs haven't come with floppy drives for a long time, though at work I use an external one every now and then. Never use the floppy drives in my pcs. Last edited by paranoidandroid : 06-10-2006 at 10:12 PM. | ||

| Member Level 3 | If you're talking about 3.5", I use mine all the time. I actually have a digital camera that takes 3.5" disks, and I use Paint Shop Pro to edit my pictures. It's convenient to be able to go straight from the camera to the computer without having to download anything. | ||

| Member Level 3 | It's an old camera, but it still works for ebay... that's what it's mostly used for. I want to get a new one eventually, but I can't afford it at this point. Here's a picture I found on ebay so I wouldn't have to do the picture in the mirror thing. | ||

| MK PitStop Member | Wow, didn't know those cameras exist, either. I've only heard of some CD-R cameras, but not floppy ones! Clarise - I meant any floppy format, either the 5.25" one or the 3.5" one. I sometimes encounter co-workers saving their CVs on diskettes, and I kept telling them that floppy drives are for transfer purposes only, not for prolonged storage. They break too easy. Also some dirt heap PCs incapable of having anti-virus software (or at least update their definitions) have also been quite a good source of macro viruses. I don't let those floppies that got through them close to my unit. | ||

| Member Level 3 | I usually browse the net on the computer not connected to my printer, so I find it easier to use floppies to transfer small files for printing like reports or guitar tabs. I could do it with my usb drives but they're usually full for some reason..... | ||
