| MK PitStop Member | I need help! I intend to buy a new video/graphics card but while browsing online, I noticed some are labeled PCI-E while some are AGP and both turn out to be different from each other. How do I know which one to buy? Should I check compatibility with my mobo, too? Sorry if my query sounds irrational. Thanks guys. | ||

| MK Admin Staff ![]() | hi the difference in those graphics cards is most old PC's still have the old PCI slots were as the more upto date computers have the AGP. AGP work alot faster than the PCI's do You can tell by what graphics card ur comp takes by looking at the pins when u open up the computer, there is a place on the website that will show u the different between the 2 by the pins. heres a pic that will help you, i hope it helps. Notice the gaps on the PCI to the APG .

| Member Level 1 | i was under the impression that PCI-E is much faster than AGP ? i baught a new motherboard so that it would be compatible with PCI-E because my other one 'only' was capable of AGP. | ||

| Member Level 2 | I realise this is quite an old post but for anyone else reading. PCI-E is the industry norm now, as it has the capability to provide a lot more bandwidth than AGP ever did. It was brought into play by manufacturers simply for marketing purposes to be frank. I've never seen a card yet (including any DX10 card) that is constrained on a 8x link. Hell, you still get a lot of mobo's, SLI one's, that revert each 16x port to 8x when a second card is installed. | ||
