What is a good video card to get?

That isnt too entirely expensive? My card is quite old and outdated and would like to get a new one, but can't afford a great deal right now. Any tips?

'Good' is pretty much an open question in this instance.

It's going to depend on usage and your monitors resolution.

As an example a 7600GT (going DX9 for now) is a decent performer for games at a resolution of 1280x1024 (4:3) or 1440x900 in widescreen. But it simply can't perform at a higher resolution, say, 1680x1200.

If you're not a gamer, then pretty much go for a card that works, any card.

If you've a low amount of system ram (1gb or less) try not to go for a graphics solution that pulls resource from your system ram as you'll find your o.s working that bit slower, especially when multi-tasking.

If you're looking at streaming hd content then HDCP support is a need.
