| Hi, I got a new HD, a serial ATA (Seaguate 200Go-Barracuda 7200- model 3200822as), and I already have a ATA (IDE) HD working good on the PC. The problem is that only the power green light of computer comes on after connecting the new SATA hard drive in the motherboard . Serial ATA cable is corectly plugged in the Serial ATA connector "0" on motherboard and in HD. Serial ATA power cable of the SATA hard drive is connected. With both HD, nothing starts except power green light (no fan, no boot, no sound, nothing. thus the BIOS isn't accessible...). Start computer with only IDE HD and everything fine. I tried a lot of thing like unplugged the CD-ROM, the DVD-Rom and the ATA HD, but always the same result. I read instruction here http://support.intel.com/support/chi...serial_dir.htm and I did exactly what they said, no result... My current config : Motherboard: Intel D865GLC RAM: 1,5 gigs OS: Win XP SP2 HD: Maxtor Diamond Max 120 Go ATA/133 -model 6y120po HD JUMPER : MASTER | |||

Does it power up? If not, you have a shorted data cable. Try the reverse, unplugging the data cable and leaving the SATA power cable connected. Does it power up? If not, you have a shorted power cable or a defective drive. Bob | |||

| thanks, we already tried it and the result is the same : only data cable: the pc power up without problem only the power cable: pc doesn't power up Intel(R) Technical Support answered me this, I'll try it saturday and let you know, but if anyone have other idea, please do not hesitate : ----------- To start troubleshooting this issue please obtain the latest BIOS update for your Intel(R) Desktop Board D865GLC: http://developer.intel.com/design/mo...lc/lc_bios.htm Once the BIOS is updated please I recommend you clear the CMOS. To do this, please remove the RTC (Real Time Clock) battery for 45 minutes. After this period of time, insert the battery back in and turn the system back on. If the problem persists please contact your device manufacturer. ----------- | |||

| Find another PC and plug the drive into a free power cable (no data cable). If it works, then your original PC has an underpowered power supply. (Even if it's rated at 300 watts, it may only deliver 200 watts under optimal conditions.) If it doesn't work in the new PC, then either the drive or the power cable has a fault.
