USB connecting problem

Guys 'n' Gals,

A month or so ago I tried to plug my USB pen into my PC (XP SP2) to download some photos. The Usb pen said it was being charged but the PC seems to have no inkling that it's connected. I can't force it to pick it up when it can't see anything there at all. I've not been able to connect it to the PC since.

Can anyone suggest what might (not) be happening?

Your USB is gone.
Sorry, i had the same problem with my (plug and play usb) phone. I had to get the whole chipset changed..

Before that, try it in other ports, in other comps to be sure...

I think the device thinks of your computer as a power source.

yeah, now a days, mp3 players etc which can charge from usb (my Phone) consider it as primarily a power source. So, i thought its chip got corrupt which acts as memory and only the charging is working, as it is a "Physical" circuit..

You are telling you can charge your pendrive, that means it is not just a pendrive, it is a drive with mp3 player or kind of ipod. Anyway whatever it may be, make sure it is switched on and just check if you have to select some mode to make it as mass storage. Make sure your usb is enabled in device manager. If there is a harddrive with exclamatory mark in device manager, click on that and click update driver. If xp does not have the required driver make sure you have the driver cd or download the driver. If your pendrive is corrupted windows will say 'windows cannot recognise the usb' or 'device connected to usb is not functioning' or something like that. If such message appears probably your device is corrupted. Before concluding that your pendrive is corrupted check it with other computer.

I'd suggest you check it on a different computer.
have you tried changing the name of the drive? I had a similar problem with my computer at work, and it was because the pendrive was E: and the server was E: too, so I changed the server to Z: and now we're all happy! (The server, the pendrive, and me, I mean, lol)

I tried to Plugged it in my friend's PC but it still the same problem,Maybe my USB pen is dead

Yes buddy, ur USB is gone... what was it actually? It surely was not purely a usb pendrive...
