Scanning Via MS Word

My friend called me the other day asking for help with scanning some photos using an HP flatbed scanner (she doesn't know the exact model). I told her to pull up the Scanner and Camera Wizard because I find it easier to scan items through it. However, the computer didn't recognize the scanner. She checked the connections and they were okay. She also said that it was working because she could see a preview of the image on the screen. If I recall correctly, what she did was use MS Word's Insert > Picture > From Scanner or Camera. Then it worked fine.

What could be the problem? It is all so confusing. For the meantime, she scans items through MS Word--very tedious!

...Well, that IS kinda weird.

Did you tell her to try reinstalling the drivers? It usually works.


Maybe an updated driver will work also.


Or perhaps an older version of that same scanner software having problems with the new? I've encountered this dilemma before with printers.

I don't know if it is about the driver because the scanner works after all. I did suggest she reinstall the driver, but the computer noveau that she is, she doesn't know how and where the installer is. A computer guy also did the installation for her. Really weird. I'll resuggest the driver update, hopefully it works. Thanks.

the scanners software are used to make the photo cover in the computer

I also think it must be the driver that is causing the problem. A reinstallation or update should do it.
