| MK PitStop Member | AMD Overclocking, I have a AMD in my pc I think it is anyway (how would I know for sure?) What I wanted to know is it safe to overclock my AMD?

| Member Level 1 | Im not expert with hardware... but I heard overclocking AMD.. leads to overheat and may reduce your processors life. If you still have plan to overclock it.. I suggest buy a huge processor fan. | ||

| MK PitStop Member | overheating doesnt sound good, would it be better if I added water cooling?

if you run stability test for like 24 hrs to test the integrity of the system running overclocked, and it shows no errors, then it wont hurt the chip....the main thing is to make sure that you have enough cooling, a core that can take the heat, and a chipset that can support it

| MK PitStop Member | I suggest to buy a higher memory than to overclock. Overclocking's aim is to speed up the processor faster right? You can make your computer speed performance by adding some memory. If you are thinking that overclocking will save you money, you might just be risking the performance of your processor. | ||

with the money you'll spend on water cooling you could buy a new CPU and system board... are you really that bent on overclocking?

| MK Moderator ![]() | he has a point, on a decent water cooling system you will spend more than $300 for all of the stuff that you need, it may not be cheaper to just buy a new board and processor, but with a new one your not running a risk of killing your system....usually water cooling is used on high end processors that people want more preformance out of... | ||

the CPU series does matter, but i would say that the core of the CPU matters just as much, for instance a Northwood core P4 has much much more potential for overclocking than a Prescott core P4 with the same cooling for each....now granted that you may have some extreme 120 mm fan or even water cooling, but theres still a limit, and i think that the core matters just as much if not more than the actual CPU series

| MK PitStop Member | Be careful when you are over clocking, move it up a little at a time and keep rebooting to see where your system stands, I know its fun pushing systems to the limit but it will eventually shorten the life of your componets and as for cooling, its my life long function to keep systems as cool as possible but without using water, I have a serious problem with water being in my cases, humidity and resistors don't mix, as the CPUs get faster they are actually coming down in wattage that will eventually keep the case a bit cooler... | ||
