| case temp is 35DegC. fans are Coolermaster XDream HAC-V81. 2 of them. im looking now at water cooling. my machine is on 24/7 as much as posible running Seti@home. i had to turn it off last night becasue it was hitting 70deg. First thing I'd do is pull the cover off and see how much temps drop. If they drop considerably, I'd focus on the case airflow. Might even consider ducts to holes in cover. If they didn't drop much, then I'd look at new cpu coolers or more powerful fans. I assume you have the fans on full power. I wouldn't even consider water unless noise is a factor. If you do. you'll need a good water system for 2 cpu's and it won't be cheap. A couple of very good air coolers like the SLK series would be a lot cheaper. The original Xdream is decent, but far from the best. -- Abit KT7-Raid (KT133) Tbred B core CPU @2400MHz (24x100FSB) http://mysite.verizon.net/res0exft/cpu.html | |||

| Well noise is not a major concern, but water cooling seems to be the way to go. since the system is so big and power hungry, i think water cooling will be an idea and a half. i have taken the case off and the heat doesent drop much. im not sure why. there are some photos of the machine, and other things, here (http://www.lotas-smartman.net/photos...p?g=Computers). the 20030705 is the one with the main pics of the system. i have spend about 20Eur on each fan. water cooling is going to cost me about 300 EUR. it will also last me a lot longer then new heat sinks and fans as if i get a new chip, ill need new fans. if i get one with the water cooling, i wont. well, i may need something, but not a lot. | |||

| yep it's the middle of winter here :-( And I have a lot of air flow in this case, and the heat from the dual amds is nice in winter ;-) But in january it gets to 35c. the case is at about 39c and the cpus are at 64c folding "Toby Groves" <news@iconia.org.uk> wrote in message news ur3yUAwzbE$Ew18@iconia.org.uk...> In article <Xs2WivAE4ZE$Ew1R@iconia.org.uk>, Toby Groves > <news@iconia.org.uk> writes > >In article <3f1178dc@dnews.tpgi.com.au>, boostland > ><boostland@wetmail.com> writes > >>My dual Xp 2100's @ 2210 mhz 1.85v are running at 56c with a case temp of > >>15c. > > > >Case temp of 15C!? > > > >It's June! | Hi: I can't make out those HSFs, but they aren't working properly. If you can't get them to cool those CPUs better I'd suggest getting a couple of Thermaltake Volcano 10 or better HSFs. They're relatively cheap and perform well. If the HSFs you have are half as efficient as they look, maybe you have something wrong with the mounting. If you are experienced and find this following advice too simplistic, just ignore it: 1) Remove any thermal pads and install thermal paste instead. 2) If you already have thermal paste ensure you are only using a very thin coat 3) You may want to lap the heatsink, some have hollows right where the CPU contacts the surface. | hmmm. im looking at getting a couple of Aero 7+ coolers. I seen them somewhere (all mentioned here -> http://blog.lotas-smartman.net/archi...12.php#000512). They look pretty cool. They are fully copper and i was told the silver stuff is good. any experiance with these? Thermal compounds are all about the same. | my question, RD, is the aero 7 too heavy. i was in peats (www.peats.ie) and they have the aero 7 and maplin (www.maplin.co.uk) have the volcano 7. the aero 7 seems heavier then the volcano 7. both are about the same price and i could get either. RD, are you using this on a Dual board or a single? if your using it on a single, anyone using it on a dual.
