Default External or Internal

I haven't used external CD/DVD drives. I have always used internal for they are cheaper than the external ones. But are the differences between using an external from an internal CD drive?

an internal CD/DVD device will be faster because you are using the IDE bus, vs the much much slower USB interface

And besides, external drives are just for ease of use and portability. If you don't really need those then all you need is the internal version. Same theory goes to other internal/external devices out there.

The portability makes external hardware more costly than an internal device. But for better performance, I'd say go for the internal CD/DVD drive. Why would you want an external CD/DVD drive anyway?

I always use only internal device because I use PC at home. Also, I don't see the reason why I would need external device too.
