| Junior Member | My PC broke down yesterday and I rang PC World who will send an engineer around a week today (2nd May). It is still under extended insurance so it should still be free, because far as I know I haven't done anything. Do you think I am right that this should be free? | ||

| MK Moderator ![]() | chances are that if you opened the computer case that the warranty is void, or if you did anything else to break the terms and aggreements.....if you didnt then you should be covered, and it should be free service | ||

| Member Level 3 | PC World in the UK? I used to work on their support line (never again). If there is a hardware fault that was not obviously caused by misuse then it is covered by the warranty. Accidental damage is also covered if you have an extended warranty (Coverplan). You are also allowed to remove the case to upgrade the PC without invalidating the warranty. | ||

| Member Level 3 | That's true but it makes no sense to prevent someone opening their case when the machine was designed up be upgradable. PC World and the support lines do their best to sell upgrades to customers in stores and via mail delivery so it would be pretty ridiculous to tell them tha tthey are then not allowed to install them. It's down to the engineer that visits wether or not something gets repaired for free. If it's obvious that the custome had phisically broken something inside the case then it would not get repaired for free it would be classed as misuse. If the customer damaged a ram chip by not taking anti static precautions then the lack of physical damage would make it impossible to prove misuse and the repair would be done free. | ||
