They just announced new maps (North America) are available, which I can download after I pay them ~$100.00. Other manufacturers charge much less for CDs that have to be shipped! For what I paid for the GPS there is no way I'll spend that much for updated maps, for which I have no idea how much they have improved them. They would make a hell of a lot more money off map upgrades if they priced them resonably. Now, when anyone asks me which GPS to buy, I steer them away from Tom Tom and I tell them to check what it will cost for map upgrades. Before I pay $100 for a map upgrade I will be "upgrading" my GPS system!

| By the way, Russell, I believe Garmin charges even more for maps than TomTom. Please tell us which map supplier is so inexpensive. I think we all have to resist the need to upgrade maps every year. It's like software: keep using the older version until it can't do what you want it to do. As for Ireland, I have heard that the new v6.75 maps are quite detailed, whereas the older version is very inadequate. | |||

I wish I could remember who it was that told me he could get a cd with updated maps for about $40. I think he had a Magellan.
