I've done a bit of tooling around Ontario with Streets&Trips 2002 and
a cheap, basic Etrex receiver picked up for about $100 (then new) and
a $7 data+cigarette lighter cable from eBay. That software will work
with about any receiver except the earlier serial port receivers from
Delorme. I can't think of a cheaper way to do it unless you find
something used or get one of the cheap mouse type receivers on eBay.

Oh! Make sure your insurance has a rider to cover the laptop.
