E Trex Vista Base Map

Hi,
If I was to buy a Garmin E trex Vista from the States, is it possible to
convert the Base map to a local one (Australia in my case)?

No, you can't convert it. You can use World Map as a basemap though, which
is what I do in Europe. To cover Australia you need about 6.5 MB of your
Vista's memory. I bought World Map quite cheap from Ebay. If that isn't a
satisfactory solution to you, you should buy a unit with a pacific basemap
at home...

No you cannot replace the basemap but you can load a Mapsource mapping
product into the memory.

I do not recommend the Mapsource Worldmap product as it is very low
quality.

However, Mapsource Metroguide Australia is a very good product at
AU$235.
On your PC you select the parts of Australia that you wish to load up
to the Vistas memory limit of 24MB.
All of Australia is 47MB

Yep, sounds like a good plan, I've had a look at world map and it will
probably suit 95% of my purposes.
