Default magellan sport track pro versus garmin etrex vista?

Hello;
I have a Sportrak Pro and LOVE it. I noticed when camping / hiking with my
friend who has the etrex vista that the Magellan seems to hold the satellite
lock MUCH better in wooded area with a lot of tree coverage.

The difference was so noticeable that he is going to take his unit to be
checked to see if there is something wrong with the antenna.

I have an Etrex Vista and have found it an indispensable tool. The
Barometric Altimeter and the electronic compass have also been welcome
additions in this product. I have found good reception of satellites as
well although I would love an antenna accessory port to put another antenna
on the top of my pack!

I'm not sure but I don't think the Sportrak Pro has the barometic altimeter
or the electronic compass.

No, it does not. However, the elevation and compass are fine for me.

Note that Magellan's altimeters don't attempt to use Barometric pressure
(like the Vista) to try and compensate for error. I've checked out a few
reviews and found claims that the algorithm used by Garmin is hit or miss,
sometime making reading worse. I don't know if you can disable the
barometric compensation on the Garmin.
