| Hi guys I have ordered a Sony CDX-M850MP ABP FACE CD MP3 Receiver from the states and now someone has told me that it may not work in the uk because of tuning issues. Is this true? Would it be possible to make it work in the uk? Dan --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). | Think its only the radio that has problems working because they operate on differnt frequencies but if you didn't check that i'm guessing you didn't check import duties-you could get stung | |||

In the uk we use .1 so you will be unable to get half the stations. you *may* be able to change the FM stepping through the menus but I doubt it. You'll probably also be caught for VAT at 17.5% and import duty at about 5% plus a fixed processing charge. That will be a big bill for a stereo that probably won't work fully. -- Alex YZF 600 "I laugh in the face of danger" "Then I hide until it goes away" www.drzoidberg.co.uk

You used to be able to get a plug in module to convert stereo's to tune correctly over here, not sure if it's available for modern stereo's tho, RE: import duty, i just ordered some LED marker lights from america, they were 6 dollars each for 12 led ones, over here they sell 6 led ones for 18 quid!! my bill was 59 dollars, about 30 quid, and i got a 77p customs charge, £4 VAT, and £6 something bloody post office charges, The vat and customs charges i can live with, but bloody post office charges, made me pay an extra 11 quid on a 30 quid order, i was ok with this only because even with the charges i got 4 times the ammount of lights that i could have got over here for that price, and mine were bigger Next time i'm sticking under the magical £18, then you don't attract customs charges, it would have been cheaper for me to order 2 seperate lots of lights i guess, postage was 5 dollars to the UK on my order, so i guess even 3 orders under £18 would have still saved me money.. mind how you can do that with a stereo i don't know.. ask them to take it appart and post bits of it over the next few months for you to re-assemble over here

| <snip> > That will be a big bill for a stereo that probably won't work fully. Thanks for all your info. I have managed to get the order changed to a Kenwood headunit that has a switch to enable use in europe. I never really use RDS. The guy is sending it to me as its a birthday present, hopefully i won't have to pay customs charges. Dan Coop --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
