Default The "Car Computer" Fad

Howdy,

I can't help but laugh at the current "car computer' fad... My former roommate had done his car up quite nicely... Although we're talking pre-Y2K that he started...

He wrote, and I tweaked, the custom front-end that it ran... on boot you could select to play a movie, a CD or MP3s from the internal hard drive... It had a 7.5" touch screen... there was a keyboard embedded in the steering wheel.. The horn was moved to beside the steering wheel, where a siren was also added... full lighting... tinted Windows... a custom case with a 145W Micro power supply... the case was in the process of being converted to Lexan last time I spoke with him..

This was before indash DVD and MP3 players... before the Fast and the Furious... before peope were tricking out their cars and installing playstations... and we were driving around, selecting our boot method, our boot operating system and what we wantedto do after we booted...

It was all quite nicely tied into an impressive sound system as well... So I call the current shift to "car computers" a fad... especially now that cars are selling with computers to varying degrees installed in them.. Thoughts and opinions on the idea that it's a fad??? People that have gotten into it in the last couple years are just "Jumping on the band wagon".
