| Argos have the HD-DVD for £119 and a tenner's free gift voucher offer ending today if you spend over £100 (if you buy £100 gift vouchers, then use them straight away the HDDVD is only £109) Question is - is it worth it just now. Not much out on HD-DVD, even less in the UK. And I've noticed that some of the discs on play-asia are now region marked (older ones aren't). Then there's the big Q of will Blu-ray win the war? I need a remote for DVD watching though, and that's going to cost me at least £15, so given there's still one in the HDDVD kit it means the drive is actually even cheaper. | |||

The only thing that stops me getting one is the fact that the X360 itself makes such an horrendous racket it would ruin any film I wanted to watch. It's a nice idea, but until MS release a quieter console it's a complete non starter for me. -- Mike Jenkins Mike's Auctions: http://tinyurl.com/93qtw 360 Gamertag: LilWashu360

There is a company in London who has apparently made a format type which accepts blu-ray and hd-dvd. Maybe they will be the eventual winner. Until HD televisions become the only TV available they don't have much chance of any new format overtaking DVD do they?

| From someone who has one I'd say no its not worth it, the variety of films right now is poor - they are overpriced, even the ones imported in from America are around £16/17 each. Don't think I'm pushing PS3 more, but I find better films on blu-ray and the prices of imports are cheaper there too, even Tesco are selling some Blu-Ray titles for £13.99 where as none for HD-DVD. -- Byron Hinson ActiveWin Windows Site: http://www.activewin.com Photos: http://www.byronhinson.com "Alan" <alan.d.shaw@googlemail.com> wrote in message news:1176130416.015722.5230@l77g2000hsb.googlegrou ps.com... | I actually think we will know the winner by the end of the March next year and although I'd like to see HD-DVD out do Blu-Ray it just doesn't look like happening, and Microsoft haven't done themselves any favors by putting our a HD-DVD drive which has had dire sound for 5 months which stopped me buying anymore HD-DVD titles...even that fix is another month away...not a good start. -- Byron Hinson ActiveWin Windows Site: http://www.activewin.com Photos: http://www.byronhinson.com "Beck" <daft_ader@yahoo.co.uk> wrote in message news:evdl8v$hs7$1@news.datemas.de... > > "Alan" <alan.d.shaw@googlemail.com> wrote in message > news:1176130416.015722.5230@l77g2000hsb.googlegrou ps.com... >>Argos have the HD-DVD for £119 and a tenner's free gift voucher offer >>ending today if you spend over £100 (if you buy £100 gift vouchers, >>then use them straight away the HDDVD is only £109) > >>Question is - is it worth it just now. But blu-ray is not perfect either. For starters, films do not run at 720p (at least on the ps3 they don't). | |||
