Xbox Live Uk worth it?

I have an Xbox and cable.
I'm wondering Is Xbox live here in the Uk worth getting? Are there
many low ping UK players online or is the connections with other
countries OK?

I understand Halo can't be played on Xbox live, are there any other
similar games which can? Could you name a few so I could read up on
them before purchasing please.
And, does anyone know if any good football games are planned for
online play?

A load of us in this newsgroup have Live, and regulary blow each other up in
the various games.

FPS games on Live are - Ghost Recon, Unreal Championship, Return to Castle
Wolfenstein and Soldier of Fortune 2.

I think one is in the works, but can't remember the name of it.

You can play Halo via XBConnect - you don't get voice chat, but if you
have your pc handy you can use a text chat window to communicate.

With Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Ghost Recon being the best of those,
