Default my gaming history

Atari 2600
Amstrad CPC 464 (w/ green screen monitor)
Atari 520ST
Nes
Snes
N64
Gameboy colour
Playstation
Saturn (Urgh)
N64 (still have and play regularly)
Dreamcast (double urgh)
PC (400Mhz 4MB GFX card)
PC (700Mhz 32MB GeForce 2 - still used)
Xbox (best gaming buy I've ever made)
PC (Celeron 1800 laptop with GeForce 4 Go card - main machine)

Obviously going through school and work my mates have allowed me to play on
other machines as and when they've appeared.

The purchase of the Sega machines was a major mistake - IMHO they are a
reasonable games firm but they cannot make games that translate well for
home play - they should stick to arcade games only.

Apart from the N64, the Nintendo games consoles were never up to scratch
either - all my time was spent searching for decent games. True there were
a few, but the Nintendo attitude of "games are only for kids" really galled
me sometimes.

The machine that raised the bar for me was the ST - never before had I seen
such a wide range of games available for very low cost. I know the graphics
and sound weren't up to the standard of the Amiga, but the range of mature
gamers using it created some amazing games (rather than the more simplistic
stuff out for the Amiga - a schoolboy's machine at the time).

The Playstation was good - 3D games that moved smoothly for once and pretty
good sound as well. The major problem for me was the wide range of games
that lasted no more than 5 hours - One rental and they were complete.

The Xbox I bought is my favourite gaming buy ever. GFX to die for (when
coded properly) and whilst the number of games may be low compared to PS2,
the ratio of good to bad is much higher IMO. I'm happy that I made the
right decision when holding off the PS2. With Live and the planned games to
be released over the next twelve months, it looks to be getting even better.
If Rallisport, Project Gotham, DOA3 and Halo represent the first generation
of Xbox games, the next round should be jaw-dropping!
