So that really was the big AM2 annoucement that was hyped? Rather a disappointment there... Pretty much the bottom of the barrel compared to some of the other speculations. For a while, I hoped that AM2 would actually announce Virtua Fighter Quest again. You know, the game Yu Suzuki announced over a year ago, hyped for a little bit, and then never ever mentioned again...

I think that Virtua Fighter Quest was "Project Berkeley," which turned into Shenmue.

It was announced well after Shenmue 1 and 2 were already in existence. The little info we do know. 1. GameCube exclusive. 2. Will contain all the Virtua Fighter characters. 3. Release date of 2003 - as this is the 10th anniversary of VF series.

Sega of Japan doesn't acknowledge its existence since they themselves marked its announcement. Nor has Yu Suzuki ever mentioned it again. It might come out of nowhere, kind of like Outrun... But Outrun had at least been rumored before it was officially announced/shown a few days ago.

It has now been re-announced as a new game. As far as I can remember, Shenmue was always Shenmue. Virtua Fighter 4 was for the PS2, and there were rumors of it going to the XBox as well. Yu Suzuki made a comment about how he didn't think the Gamecube was a good system for a game like Virtua Fighter (due to its demographics). He later comes back (within a month? I forget) to announce what he thought would work for the Gamecube audience, Virtua Fighter Quest. It was to be an adventure/RPG set in the Virtua Fighter universe, would be released for the anniversary, and would be a Gamecube release rather than PS2 or XBox. Sega of Japan noted the announcement as well. And that was pretty much the last that was heard of it. Neither Sega nor Yu Suzuki ever mentioned the game again after that first month or so.
