Default PC version graphics performance (PCGP) - HT ON makes smoother 1600x1200P4 2.8 fx5900 ultra

It looks like having HT ON makes graphics smoother for the specific
circumstance of 1600x1200 res on a P4 2.8gig with an fx5900 ultra.
Should mention using an SB Live platinum card maybe. This on the very
last checkpoint through to the credits. Without HT, I get jerkiness
when there are explosions.

Hyperthreading is not a function of the motherboard - but is a feature of
certain Intel Processors.
You will also need to ensure that hyperthreading is enabled in the BIOS

Default PC version graphics performance (PCGP) - HT ON makes smoother 1600x1200 P4 2.8 fx5900 ultra

Hi, I've never been a "gamer" except for Flight Simulator 98 several years
ago but a friend of mine convinced me to try the Halo demo. Well I did and
I've had a ball. I run Win XP pro, Intel P4, 3.1 gig, HT, ATI 9700 Video
card, 19" FS and SB Live Plat. Not sure how to disable/enable the HT but
I'm not sure it would make any difference. The demo runs fine (no jerking)
and movement seem perfect. Like I said I'm not a gamer so maybe I'm
overlooking something but I can't wait to get the full version. My buddy
said he saw on G4 TV there was a website where you could download the full
version of the game for free. Are you by any chance aware of the website?
If not, I'll have to put it on my XMAS list. ha
Thanks

So, strictly, it's a function of both. It'll be under something like
advanced->CPU. Or google it! Which motherboard and processor do you
have? I don't know how clued up you are - not all P4s do hyperthreading.

It's a commercial game, so any free full version will be warez. It's
worth the cash - quite breathtaking. My wife's not a gamer per se, and
she doen't notice most of the jerkiness I talk about, but it's pretty
intrusive sometimes (to the extent that she certainly see's it - "oh,
yes, that's bad" sort of thing). I'm running at a refresh of 72Hz - the
default is 60Hz, which is safer in terms of dropped frames, but it's a
bit flickery. I'm a bit obsessive about getting the thing to look right
- you may well not care, which is cool. Enjoy!

Default PC version graphics performance (PCGP) - HT ON makes smoother 1600x1200 P4 2.8 fx5900 ultra

Hello, In your posting I read your reference to the Halo PC demo couldn't
resist the temptation to ask you a question or two.
I have no gaming experience at all but a friend suggested I try Halo and he
bet I would like it. I didn't think my cpu was hot enough for gaming but he
said since I do so much photo work with Adobe PS7 I would have no problems.
I run WinXPpro, P4, HT, 3.1 gig, ATI9700VC and SBLive 5.SC. I downloaded
the demo and everything seems to run ok but I don't know what the limits of
the demo are. Either every time I get to where the gal say's "I see a crack
in the wall" or something like that and I go to check it out and end up
getting my a...killed. Is that the extent of the demo or can I go further
if I can keep alive? ha. I can't find an opening in the wall to go into.
"I told you I have no experience with games.
Any help you might give me would be very much appreciated.
Thanks,
Jim
