As the good lady indoors will testify while I play Wolfenstein, I am on a different planet, quite literally. And being able to talk tactics with others really makes a difference. And with 500,000 Xbox Live subscribers, you will always find a game that is challenging.

| Agreed. Using Wolfenstein as an example again, Xbox Live adds value to a game. By itself, Wolfenstein I thought was quite mediocre. As an Xbox Live game it's a must have and a must keep. Without the Live aspect I would have traded the game in soon after I finished it. You will meet from time to time (OK daily) an idiot or two. After you find a good group of friends you end playing with them most of the time. Don't let the idiots throw you off. <ff> wrote in message news:%23NhibUyWDHA.2040@TK2MSFTNGP11.phx.gbl... > > "tiffman" <tiffman@mac.com> wrote in message > news:BB54AC20.1D9A%tiffman@mac.com... > > I was thinking about getting xbox live but I want to know if it is worth > it. > > If sum people will reply and let me know what they think that would be > very > > helpful. | At least for me it is, I have a decent connection, Cable 1.5mbps, and can almost always find a game with little or no lag. Wolfenstein is def one of the best if not the best Live game out there, this game really shows off what voice can do to a game. Some other good games are MotoGP2, MechWarrior, SOFII, NFL2k3, UC, you really can't go wrong with any of these games. Just make sure you have a compatible router if you are going to go that direction, check out the Xbox Live web site, they have some good info on what works with Live and how to hook it all up. Hope to see you on Live soon! kornking "tiffman" <tiffman@mac.com> wrote in message news:BB54AC20.1D9A%tiffman@mac.com... > I was thinking about getting xbox live but I want to know if it is worth it. > If sum people will reply and let me know what they think that would be very > helpful. You absolutely HAVE to ahve a credit card to play XBL and if you don't your out 80$. This has happened to me, so only if you have a credit card will you be able to play XBL. | |||

A debit card or check card will also work fine, if it is one with a Visa logo, it works just like a credit card and withdraws directly from your checking account. Maybe even a prepaid credit card might work. I think that requiring a credit card is perfectly reasonable, Xbox Live is an online service and virtually everything online requires a credit card. With subscriptions and future content requiring payment, I don't blame them at all for not wanting to deal with sending out bills and having to worry about collecting payments. I imagine it might even save a bit of money that could even help keep the cost down for the consumers. If you don't have a credit card I would suggest you get one, no credit isn't much better than bad credit, it's best to get started building up your credit by maintaining a credit card as soon as possible. If you paid $80 (I assume Canadian dollars) for Xbox Live and can't use it, that is not Microsoft's fault, it is your fault for not reading the requirements that are clearly written on the box.

| Agreed Avalanche. The other reason is to ensure a) the person playing is an adult or b) has an adult's permission. Unless the were sneak mommy's credit card out her purse while she was sleeping. Many games state that the ESRB rating changes when going online, and for good reason. This takes liability off of Live for your son's higher rate of cuss word use. | It's an excellent investment. Makes a change to play multiplayer games with people all over the world, instead of your friends, and the AI. Not only that you can download new levels and updates for your games such as Splinter Cell, Brute Force, UC, MechAssault, and several more. You can buy a game complete it and then 3 months later there'll be new levels for you to play. Burnout 2 has online score boards and world leagues which you can enter and see how good you really are. All it takes is a simple upload. There is virtually no lag is you are playing on your own. I have friends who have 512k cable connections and they don't suffer any lag at all. Only real problem is if you have more than one player on your xbox and some games can suffer a momentary pause. If you have a faster connection there should be no problems at all. Hope this helps.
