| Hi, Anyone else in the UK been hit by problems with Guitar Hero II on xbox 360 ? yesterday my Son installed and played the game and the console froze after about 10 minutes (never frozen before in 18 months). he rebooted and it froze again after 5 minutes. Ejected game and rebooted. Played CoD 2 and Oblivion. Both froze (Static screen image with white vertical dashes) after about 5 minutes. The Dashboard even freezes some times. Sometimes we also get the circle of death. I tried uninstalling the game via the dashboard (2 things were listed against it which makes me think we unwittingly got the update ?). I also removed the cache and game profile. Still the unit is unusable. Now some would have you believe this is a coincidence, but I'm not convinced. The xbox is connected to the internet, and I'm guessing the prefs are set to auto-update games, hence we fell foul of the whammy bar update that can kill your xbox 360. Incredible that a game could appear to corrupt the device so thoroughly , as I assume the dashboard runs from the BIOS ? Maybe the guitar controller does something bad to the USB port. I'll get a refund from where I got the game, but I guess I'll have to ship the 360 to Microsoft , which will be a new experience as so far, it's been without problem. My advice if you have this game is be very careful, especially with the update. | |||

The thing is, the patch highlights a problem with your 360 that was there, dormant, already. The patch didn't break it. deKay -- Lofi Gaming: www.lofi-gaming.org.uk [Gamertag: deKay 01] Gaming Diary: www.lofi-gaming.org.uk/diary/ My computer runs at 3.5MHz and I'm proud of that "Zomoniac is wrong"

Of course the net effect is the same whether it's the update alone or it's interaction with something already present on the console - 1 dead 360 brick

| I had this last week, sometimes white dashes, sometimes a white mesh effect over the screen. But the machine would freeze up. Bottom line I took it back to the shop and they swapped it over for a new one with no hassle. I had a couple of months warranty left so that was okay. I took a picture of the screen and showed it to the guy in the shop and he reckoned it was hardware failure. So if you have any warranty left I'd get your machine back to the shop and change it for a new unit. Not impressed with the 360 after this though. Mine had only seven months light use before it rolled over on it's back and bit the dust. -- Posted via a free Usenet account from http://www.teranews.com | |||

The machine has actually had 18 months heavy use. I read that the bricks overheat and this is lifted off the carpet and sits on an inverted oven trivet, which aids air circulation. The PSU actually has air hole at both ends and I think an internal fan as one end appears to have a slight air flow. Anyhow the brick is kept as well ventilated as I can get it. I'm still suspicious of GH2 though, if you google it , there seem to be lots of people experiencing instability after the game update

| My brick was always kept well ventilated too, so I'm guessing it isn't a problem with the brick. However, even though I don't have Guitar hero, my problems began directly after the last update and until that happened the unit was fine. One other thing I noticed after the update was an irritating squeak on power up coming form the disk drive, that was definitely not there before. All things considered I guess I was lucky that I was still in the twelve months warranty period. However if this new one goes tits within eighteen months I'll be jumping ship and replacing it with a PS3,which hopefully will be price cut, and will have some decent games by then. -- Posted via a free Usenet account from http://www.teranews.com | |||

On Windows I'm always being asked if I want to update the DirectX, so plenty of game suppliers re-distribute parts of the underlying OS. I wonder if the same thing happens with the 360 but in a silent way ? It also occured to me if GH2 attempts to reduce the noise of the box (slows fan, runs internal disks in acoustic management mode) ?
