Default USB pad?

Quick question....

Will any type of USB compatible controller work (just for the directional
buttons) on the 360?

Reason I ask is that I have a PS2 compatible dance mat and also a 'mini'
dance mat (just for t'fingers) that I could connect to the 360 via a PS2 to
USB adaptor. Might be fun for Boom, boom, rocket

Thanks

No, none will unless they're specifically for the 360. All 360 controllers
have to be "signed" by MS before they'll work.

However...

A USB keyboard's arrow keys *do* work as a d-pad, so if you've got 1337
hardware haXX0ring skillz there may be a solution...

It'd make it impossible, I'd have thought! Have you ever tried playing Space
Channel 5 with a dance mat?
