| Hi, I know that there are already various posts out there describing various issues with the XBox 360. I am now on my 2nd, the 1st decided to stop playing disks (I suspect it has scratched 1 or 2 of them as they no longer work on the new console). I was happy with the support I received regarding the console, although I never did find out what the exact problem was with the original console (except for a hardware fault - nobody at MS could be more specific). My issue is regarding the damaged game disks. I have posted this because I want to know just how many people have been left in the position I am now in. That is, I now have 2 damaged game disks, one of which still plays now and again, and MS are refusing to replace these disks. Now in my opinion (and this is only an opinion) MS have a moral (not legal) obligation to replace the damaged disks free of charge. Instead, I am being told the only option is to pay £10 for a replacement. Even then this only covers Microsoft studio games, not any other games. I spoke to one of the support team, who categorically stated that it was Microsoft policy not to give free games away, and my only option was the disk replacement program. I just want to see how many people now have damaged disks, or how many people have actually had to pay to have disks replaced. I would rather pay to get the disks repaired than give MS more money. It is not about the money, but I do not think the MS policy is morally correct. I do not see that anything can be done about this, against a company the size of MS but I would be interested to know just how widespread this issue is. So please, if you have had this issue, and you now have £50 coasters rather than game disks, please post here. And tell anybody else that you know that has this issue to post here too. Many Thanks, Paul | |||

I had one of my defective 360's turn a few games into coasters as well. Ever since then I have been purchasing insurance with every "new" game I get from EB / Gamestop. It's worth it to get full replacement just incase.

It's worth it to get full replacement just incase. I`ve never heard of a shop offering this. So they sell you insurance incase you damage the disk, in which case you go to them and they`ll swap it out for you? How much does it cost? And do they end up just re cycling the disk back to their shelves to try and palm the problem off to someone else (in which case it`d presumably be a case of "on your bike" if they didn`t pay the insurance), or do they do it properly and send it back to their supplier?

They have a machine that cuts a layer of the cover coating off which gets rid of the surface scratches and then they put it back on the shelf. If it has a deep scratch then it goes to coaster heaven. They went through this with the PS1 and the PS2 and now the 360. I have not had my 360 scratch anything yet and my PS3 has yet to scratch anything(fingers crossed). I've noticed that my PS3 is starting to run rather loud though. Still not as loud as my 360 but its a bugs me a bit because it was whisper quiet when new.
