Hidden abilities of Wii?

Is exists some hacks on the Wii to play homebrew games or to play movies
(like on the PSP) ? I saw in binaries newsgroups a couple of days ago many
games for the Wii virtual console, does anyone knows how to use them ?

alt.binaries.dvd.image.wii or alt.binaries.nintendo.wii

For now, only roms for virtual console are hacked, but i've seen a team is
being rip Red Steel to dvd image... But i don't know they can load it on the
console (it seems wii has a against copy protection)...
