| I thought Wal-Mart were a pretty ruthless company, but Sony takes this biscuit! http://www.pressstartonline.co.uk/view.php?item=171 Lik-Sang was one of my favourite online stores. I won't ever be buying another Sony product again. This is just simply very spiteful outrageous paranoid protectionist behaviour. I won't be buying any products from a company that acts like this that's for sure! I think if I get a new system anytime soon I'll probably go for the Nintendo Wii. It might not have the power of an XBox or a PS3, but that's not what it's all about. It's about the fun factor. It's also about money in the pocket too and Wii is a lot cheaper, and more affordable than the other 7th generation games consoles, and probably more innovative anyway with it's fancy controllers. I think that this time Nintendo have finally got it spot on and they really needed to for their main console because they have been slumping with the last three. Another good thing is it will be here before Christmas and there will be plenty of them. That can only be good news. John | |||

Sony wasn't the first to apply pressure to Lik-Sang (nor was this even Sony's first interaction with Lik-Sang). Lots of companies, including Nintendo, have threatend Lik-Sang over the products they sold, but Lik-Sang usually backed down. In this case, however, Sony filed a number of lawsuits all over Europe, making it impossible for Lik-Sang to defend itself in court without totally going bankrupt, so they shut down, took whatever money they'd made, and ran. I'm pretty sure they'll resurface in some form elsewhere. Furthermore, I think Sony went beyond simple threats this time because the PS3 seems to violate a regulation in England (and maybe the rest of Europe?) regarding how much power a small appliance is allowed to consume. Apparentally the PS3 is VERY power hungry - consuming more power than even most high-end gaming PCs. I further suspect this is also why Sony abruptly dropped Europe from the initial launch of the PS3 as neither Japan nor the US have such a regulation. Anyways, this tactic that Sony used is what's called a SLAP in the US. It's when a large company tries to sue an individual or smaller company in hopes they'll "just go away" - using the court as a form of extortion. Such suits aren't legal in the US (judges will dismiss or throw them out - and allow the victim's counter-lawsuit to procede) but in Europe... > I think if I get a new system anytime soon I'll probably go for the > Nintendo Wii. I still have serious doubts about how useful the Wii's controller is actually going to be. I also have some doubts about Nintendo's overall business model. Sure, sell older games online. I might be interested in a handful of those. But $8 for a NES game? I don't think so. Well, it'll be interesting to see how things shape up. -- Win cash and giftcards just for clicking your mouse! http://www.netwinner.com/?signupCode=amuro98

| You shouldn't buy a Sony product because of the lifelong Sony Philosophy. They just like to make something and then try and improve on it afterwards. The problem is what they usually make to start with is a pile of crap. John | |||

They thought that they couldn't have another kid that screamed so much and put them through so much pain. The unfortunate thing is I got all the good DNA. The one that came after me wasn't so lucky. Third one came out alright though. John

In Marxism, it's a reference to the "capitalist class". And, yes, it does seem that one would have to be well off to afford a PS3 (especially one offered on eBay). -- Glenn Shaw • Indianapolis, IN USA To reply by e-mail, remove "nospam" and swap "cast" and "net"
