Japanese retailer discontinues Sony games sytems, Sony to post record loss thanks to games division, NPD predictions see less than 100k sold for all of April PS3 DOOMED!

And so Sony's worst news week begins - NPD Sales are due this week,
and analysts are predicting that less than 100k are sold for all of
April.

The disaster that is the PS3 has been recognised as such by at least
one major Japanese toy retailer, and they have discontinued the entire
Sony product line as of the end of Arpil.

Sony is also losing record amounts of money thanks to the PS3 and it's
slower than expected adoption rates (Sales to you and me!). People
simply don't need a blu-ray player, and since that's the only USP of
the PS3, it's sales are plummeting!

If it wasn't for the PS2 continuing to sell well, the Sony Playstation
franchise would bring the company down. As it is, they are posting
massive losses despite this.

Meanwhile, XBOX 360 sales are going to hit profitability next year.
Sony won't, however, as they need to cut the price of the PS3 VERY
SOON, otherwise it will be the blu-ray equivalent of the NeoGeo - only
without the games.

The entirety of that news seems to be in the form of a translation of a
photo of a single sign.

Maybe it's like when Kmart stopped carrying new Sega materials; Kmart
had stopped paying their bills to Sega, so Sega stopped sending them
product until the more than a million dollar bill was paid (no more
Dreamcast materials ever went to Kmart from that point on). As the PS2
is still doing big business, it seems more likely that Sony is choosing
to stop that particular supply rather than the store is choosing to not
carry it. And the PSP still seems to have life left in it.

Sony could be playing hardball and refusing to sell PSP or PS2 stuff to
retailers who refuse to stock PS3s. Or maybe the retailer stopped paying
their bills. Or maybe there's something about the sign that's
misleading; some turn of phrase lost in translation. Or maybe Nintendo
is playing hardball and signing up exclusivity deals that would likely
be illegal in the US.

Well, I don't know if it is all that bad for Sony. The PS3 is **** and
everyone knows it, but still people are going to buy it a Christmas,
the ones that don't know any better and the Japanesse RPG fans (which
Nintendo seems to be stealing all of them away). I almost feel sorry
for Sony, but they should have taken it seriously when Microsoft
entered the console world.
