| Once again, the several extra months in development, + the 'extra power' the PS3 apparently has, didn't make up for the weak video card in the PS3! The 360 version is still the king, and the weak excuses of the PS3 crowd are holow: This game didn't get rushed for launch, and has had at least another 6 months of development over the 360 version, hence the extra level or two and new charactor... http://uk.ps3.ign.com/articles/778/778514p1.html "Graphically, the game looks good, but falls short of the detailed display Sam saw on Xbox 360 last year. Players who ran through the paces in Microsoft-land will notice a slower framerate and the loss of a few small details (things like a smaller quantity of fights during the prison riot, different textures on character close-ups and no goggle-toggle when tossing on Sam's specs). ..... You can't see me.There are other areas where Sam and company suffer from a bout of PS3 hiccups too. In some instances, for example, snow falls everywhere but the top left-hand corner of the screen; Sam's hands occasionally clip into walls while he hacks at a wire; and the camera will sometime flip out as our hero climbs across a pipes." | |||

Devil May Cry 4 will probably look better on MS's machine too.

The PS3 will have much better looking games eventually when developers learn how to program the Cell. It'll be so nice in 2-3 years when PS3 owners can finally look at their nice shiny black box and say it was all worth the money and waiting time.

People keep saying this, and even I was a believer...until a friend of mine pointed out that the PS3 doesn't use the Cell for graphics - it has a nVidia chipset. So, how will learning to program the Cell better translate into better looking games? Do you think that developers will actually try to write a graphics library for the Cell and bypass the nVidia chips altogether? Because I'm pretty sure Sony isn't going to do this - that's why they put the nVidia chip in the PS3 in the first place. Or am I just totally off-base here? I really don't want to see the PS3 fail entirely, but at the same time I don't see how the Cell is going suddenly save the day. Moreover, even if this was a technically feasible plan, will developers even bother? In the past, we would hear about them complain how hard the Playstation was to deal with, yet that didn't stop them. This time, the leader of the market happens to also be more developer-friendly. Again, not a major factor by itself, but when combined with everything else... -- Win cash and giftcards just for clicking your mouse! http://www.netwinner.com/?signupCode=amuro98

| Your right about this, all the cell does is move data/code around its not used for the graphics. I've heard the nvidia graphics used in the PS3 is a generation behind the ATI graphics used in the Xbox360. I agree and my post was basically sarcastic. However, I do think you can improve graphics by programming better Cell algorithms. The CPU is partially responsible for a lot of things that improve the look of the game like the physics, lighting effects, etc. | |||

| Yes, you are right. PS3 spec has greater potentials. Graphic cards on PS3 and 360 are comparable but GPU alone does not make the game look good. It lies on GPU and CPU. Just like the same problem with PS2, Sony does not make it easy for developer, especially with Cell. 360 has 3 general purpose cores, which is not hard for developer. PS3's is a lot more complex. It has one primary core and 8 specialized cores. Developer are still having very very hard time figuring out how to utilize those 8 specialized cores. It is going to take time but once they master PS3's Cell, just like it took them sometime to master PS2, we are going to start seeing differences in graphics. We can expect to see some games utilize Cell's features around this holiday season. I heard that Namco is working on PS3 version of new Ace Combat with major enhancements by taking advantage of Cell. Until then, many cross-plaform games will be better on 360. I honestly don't think the PS3 will ever have a graphical edge over the 360. Sure, the games will get better looking on the PS3 but the two consoles will both have their share of games that look slightly better on one or the other but in the end will be more or less equals. | |||

If this ends up true, tell me why someone would go for a PS3 over a 360, if it the PS3 will end up costing more money? - The Rich
