Default Sony Hard Drive renders Messiah 2 pro and Apple modchips useless.

I have one ( dont ask where I got it) and I tried it in my Messiah
pro 2 modded ps2 and it wouldnt load backups . Also tried it in my PS2
with the Apple 3.1 chip ,same deal no worky.
That bites i like the HD feature.

Can you at least tell us what the hard drive will do for you?
Is it just a big memory manager awaiting supporting games or can it be used
now (help load times, etc.)

How would you know if it works? There are no games supporting it in europe.
However.. if you tried it on FFXI I have learned to know this has a
chipdetection.

In what way is the Sony hdd differend from the Quantum Fireball I
installed in mine as a test? And what software did you use to get the
PS2 to recognize the hdd?

Even a PC needs a BIOS chip to recognize an hdd, and thus allow you to
format the hdd. And you do need software with which to format the hdd.

AFAIK, there is no native PS2 recognition of the hdd, and no software
to format the hdd. But...the disk does spin up properly; by the sounds
of it.

The game or a portion can install to the HD to help with load times
etc and you dont need the DVD with the one game I have tested.
