Yes the Xbox CPU only runs at 750 MHz, its basically a modified Pentium 3. I have overclocked one, and made it run stable at just under 1 GHz. This makes the games load quicker and respond better under heavy hardware conditions. The hard drive needs to have an Xbox OS on it if you just want to plug it in and use it. You can put linux or any other operating system on the hard drive, you just have to put a mod chip in your box.

The actual hard drive it self is an ATA 100 or 133 hard drive, they are ready to be plugged into a pc, and are not modified in any way. The only thing that is Xbox standard is the OS they put on it.
