Since there are really only three major competitors in the market right now, having two seems the norm. I do believe that Microsoft (the third who doesn't have a handheld) is manufacturing a handheld device to come out later.

It isn't that handheld's sell less. It's that the people want to play their consoles more. Next-gen consoles and updated graphics is where the market is, handhelds are just the icing on companies cakes, really.
