XBOX not connect to Belkin Router, Does Connect to Modem! | | Hi Ted,
I'm browsing the public newsgroups here at Microsoft for some
networking related answers with the free 180 day evaluation version of
Windows Server 2003... while I was searching some of the newsgroups I
noticed your post about XBOX networking issues with a SOHO router.
I have spent considerable time speaking with Linksys support people and
have spent considerable time setting up TCP/IP networking...
sometimes my nEtworking is nOtworking
and other times; everything is fine.
Here are a few configurations that may achieve better results with your XBox
and your Router...
First find some of these answers.
1.) your DSL modem is either a gateway or router... know the difference...
who is your ISP... what equipment do you have.
2.) If your Belkin router is a router than it is running DHCP for your
local network, including your XBOX... log into your router with a PC and
determine the DHCP allocated IP address of the XBox...
3.) If you're finding that once you have a link light; and yet still don't
have the connectivity you're looking for, determine whether your router
supports a demilitarized zone. (DMZ).
4.) test running the XBox in the DMZ.
As always... before spending anymore of your time troubleshooting this
issue... Update to the latest firmware from your equipment
manufacturers... and do a hard reset of your router before reconfiguring any
of the network settings.
Ted... some of these tasks require a good bit of knowledge regarding
TCP/IP networking...
one other thing you may research is to which ports are required for
the XBox to communicate... and you may find that if you don't wish to run
the XBox in the DMZ... that instead you may prefer to simply port forward
the appropriate sockets from the outside world to the XBox...
Another thing to consider is whether or not you have incoming packets being
blocked in anyway by your router...
My Linksys W11S4 does blocking by default...
but not anymore...
Also.... if you setup your router and it is capable of remote
administration; then you may be able to get someone you trust to configure
your router for you remotely once you have a link between the XBox and the
router.
I hope this help,
Yours Truly,

directly it connects instantly. If i plug it into my router the lights on
the XBOX ethernet card do not light up and it acts like there is no cable
plugged in. At the router end the light on that port flashes about 1 time
per second. I've called xbox and belkin. they both blame it on the other
guy and say there is no reason why.......
