the CPU series does matter, but i would say that the core of the CPU matters just as much, for instance a Northwood core P4 has much much more potential for overclocking than a Prescott core P4 with the same cooling for each....now granted that you may have some extreme 120 mm fan or even water cooling, but theres still a limit, and i think that the core matters just as much if not more than the actual CPU series
